Vibrant Mural, "Explore 2 Learn", Shared with the Community

Updated: Sep 2, 2022

July 1, 2022- A partnership between Batesville Area Arts Council, Batesville Main Street, and Kids Discovery Factory resulted in a new mural for downtown Batesville. The mural was created by San Diego artist Hanna Gundrum of Little House Ink. On Friday, July 1st, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at 110 Sycamore Street.

The public art piece was designed to showcase science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) in a playful and whimsical manner. Housed on the freshly painted north side of Kids Discovery Factory, the mural highlights many exciting aspects of the future three-story children’s museum.

The mural is titled Explore 2 Learn as an homage to the museum’s original name at its 2009 founding. While the non-profit children’s museum changed to Kids Discovery Factory in 2015, the vision remained the same – building a world-class children’s museum in southeastern Indiana where regional children and families can explore and learn together.

Kids Discovery Factory Executive Director Emili Uden said, “It’s important for us to remember the journey this museum has taken. During these exciting stages of creating the physical space for Kids Discovery Factory, I keep all those who have been part of the journey at the forefront of my mind. We are so grateful for every board member, camp teacher, volunteer, donor, and cheerleader. Naming the mural Explore 2 Learn is just one way to meaningfully connect with our history.”
